I recently found this old 1963 movie. Nick von Spaeth and I filmed it while stationed at Fort Bragg North Carolina (1962-1964). Nick wrote the screen play, I directed and both of us shared the camera work. We were assigned to the 1st Military Intelligent Battilion 5th Platoon and worked in the Press and Camera section. Nick died November 10,2001 from a small spider bite that was overlooked and quickly led into staph infection. So sorry Nick you never got to see your movie play on a public screen. Thanks YouTube, for the opportunity you offer young film makers to show their work.
Nick and I shot "Impulse" on 16mm film over three weekends in the Fayatteville, NC area around the base. We hand processed the negative footage and stung up the footage to dry in the barracks and never had the money to get a print made from the negative footage. The negative footage stayed in storage for almost 30 years before I had a VHS print made. Much damage has been done and what you see now is the result of poor care over the years.
We had lots of help from local business people who supplied us with locations, vehicles and food.
Sorry to say the name of the main actor (also a GI) has been lost. If anyone knows him please put him in contact. He has never seen this movie.
The coffee shop scene was shot at the Dunk 'N Donut on the main drag into the base.
The cars and truck were supplied by a local used car lot.
The car crash was done by another GI who's name was also lost.
Sorry, it took so long to finally get it shown in public. Enjoy what's left.

Nick von Spaeth was know for his film production work in and around the Washington, DC area. His work may still be showing in the National Air and Space Museum, National Geographics and numerous Washington exhibits and displays.

In loving memory of my dear friend Nick who left this world way to early.

  • This reminds me of B movies or cheap TV shows from that time period. It's great to see all the old cars and the diner. Thanks for posting it.

  • This is great! Thank you for posting it. (:

I like the score, as well. It reminds me of old Abbot & Costello films. The scary ones, anyway. Well done!
