Japanese Kid in Iowa
It was spring 1975 in Iowa
We had just moved from Japan
It was my first day at school
I wore a baseball hat and my toughskin pants
My classmates pointed and they laughed
they made slant eyes at me
they sang chinese japanese dirty knees look at these
and asked me to do karate
I'm the only kid with a bento box
and no one wants to trade with me
I have some sushi and wasabi
but I'd really like to try a Twinkie
An 8 year old outcast, lonely and sad
a stranger in a strange town
but Wednesday came and something happened
to change that all around
It was show and tell, I brought my dad in
He brought his Samurai sword
The kids were amazed by his shiny blade
I was an outcast no more.
I'm the only kid with a bento box
now everyone wants to trade with me
I trade my sushi and my wasabi
for Oscar Mayer bologna
I'm the only kid in Iowa with a bento box
I can so see that happening. Great story and song! Thank you for sharing!

I love bento - I wish you'd sat next to me!
The lyrics read like poetry. Nice one.

What a great song! It kind of reminds me of "Jeremy" by Pearl Jam! LOL

Thanks! Yeah, it could have really gone that way where the dead lay in pools of maroon below.
