Tebaldi, Freni, Del Monaco and Corelli è poi finito!
Kabaivanska OK but nothing exceptional. Martinucci shows clueless and matt. His acting is rather boring and meaningless, his voice lacks of brilliance and colors. Puccini's Manon is Verismo!!! and not Bel Canto! this rendition is far away from it.

This is what opera is/should be all about! Sonorous, fach-appropriate singing reflecting perfect understanding of the composers musical style and intentions. Just listen to the stentorian beauty of Martinucci's singing! Even better than in the 1981 clip also available here. And Kabaiwanska, in her 50's, is a revelation of vocal solidity and consummate Puccini artistry. The high notes, the pianissimi, the attention to text....EVERYTHING is there. Thanks so much for uploading!

5:30 is one of my favorite moments in opera. That's what it's all about! So much passion.

Thank u Onegin!!
I had no idea this existed! How fabulous! I have a pirate CD of Kabaivanska and Martinucci from a Pisa 1980 performance. It's to die for!
Sweet Jesus, they are on fire here!
