This short item was made in 1984 to show off my production skills to the BBC. In 1984 this was state of art editing. It was done on tape and was technically very difficult to do at that time.

It also shows the wonderful camera work of the production team at TVNZ. Cameramen love working with movement. Cameramen motor racing and football and so ballet was easy for them as the technique is the same.

Two of the costumes the modern and traditional bluebird were by Elizabeth Jenkins a brilliant costume designer as I had to demonstrate this area too. The gorgeous old fashioned tutu belonged to The Royal Ballet who wanted it filmed so I had to come up with an creative solution to show ours were as good as theirs.

The sound was one of the first digital recordings made on computer by Carl Doy. I travelled to Wellington to record a performance so that the dancers could have the correct tempo.

The series was made 'Dance Tales Story Ballets' was shown on BBC in 1986 thanks to this short promo.

But now it is time to archive. Technology is moving so fast that it is almost impossible to keep up. Putting items like this on YouTube is one way of archiving.

Would I do it again? Yes! Not many have seen it but I was proud of the result.
