In the year 2000 a friend and I began a Timber Rattlesnake habitat use and movement study. Our plan was to mark the rattles of wild rattlesnakes with paint and release them at the capture location and then when seen again we could calculate distance traveled, habitat used and so on. The study lasted for close to 4 years and we marked 15 snakes. Although some good data was collected, the study was never completed due to circumstances beyond our control and the snakes still roam free in a private wildlife reserve.
All we have in Michigan is the massasauga rattlesnake, which seems not as poisonious as others. I've never seen one myself though.
