James Kalm takes a brisk walk through a collection of recent portrait paintings by Francesco Clemente. Having embraced his position as the court portraitist to New York's social elite, Clemente brings a sense of irony and a dash of satire to his elegantly naive depictions of the rich and famous.
garbage..... this painting sucks

francesco's work appeals to me through his passion for "social portraiture"

fun body of work. love how the figures are cramped to the edges, yet there is a vast spaciousness he achieves through his use of negative space. very cool. wish i could afford a piece!

His subjects look frightened and quite unfinished. I like it.
