James Kalm takes a brisk walk through a collection of recent portrait paintings by Francesco Clemente. Having embraced his position as the court portraitist to New York's social elite, Clemente brings a sense of irony and a dash of satire to his elegantly naive depictions of the rich and famous.

  • garbage..... this painting sucks

  • francesco's work appeals to me through his passion for "social portraiture"

  • fun body of work. love how the figures are cramped to the edges, yet there is a vast spaciousness he achieves through his use of negative space. very cool. wish i could afford a piece!

  • garbage. i thought this clemente guy was enlightened.

  • I guess the court always needs a portraitist...

  • His subjects look frightened and quite unfinished. I like it.

  • Francesco Clemente will be on a panel discussion -Art Creativity and Tibetan Buddhism with Philip Glass, Gelek Rimpoche, and Michael Imperioli on May 9 2009 at Cooper Union in NYC -should be interesting

  • success breeds contempt

  • total art bollocks! ...thanks again though, for another great vid jameskalm

  • Awkward money people.
