  • Coach Abel,

It would be interesting to hear your take on the research that people cite when cutting out abdominal exercises involving spinal flexion.

This seems to be an area where many researchers have not been actively involved in bodybuilding or higher athletics, and yet many highly respected coaches have taken that research to heart.

There seems to be this notion that flexion with ab training is a spinal injury waiting to happen more so as a matter of when versus if.

  • Well the point isn't to NOT use information, but the point is all about relevance and application. Too many "book smart" experts, quoting research they have no idea what it means.

and research is not fact. This is soft science, not hard science in this industry

They point is research should guide expertise, not dictate it !

  • Awareness of this reality is more important now than ever. We are drowning in information, and the majority of it is without context and virtually useless. Scott, Kevin, guys like you are the way of the future for anyone after truth and knowledge, which isn't out there on the Internet. You can only get knowledge from the real-world application of experience, science, and TIME.

  • Well thank you. My new book has a chapter devoted to this as well as a consistent address of this throughout the text

  • Studies and science are fine but results are king. There are a lot of trainers who have made a living even though they have never actually trained anyone.

  • Yes, well marketing is an unfortunate reality that caters to "appearance" of expertise and lots of "promises"

My new book will address this in some depth
