Why can't the gov't tax it?

Because for one you don't need special temperatures or climate to grow weed. And also anyone in their right mind can grow it. It's kind of like how the government can't tax gingerbread houses, people can make them on their own.

Yes but if like if they become merchandise, like being sold at a store or something, then the gov't would be able to tax it.

Yeah but do you really think people would buy it from a store rather than growing it in their own basement? And on a different subject, I do understand how people can oppose legalization of weed. But it doesn't make sense while we have more dangerous substances available to us in the first place.

Making it legal to sell commercially but illegal to grow and sell privately (at home) will not keep people from growing it themselves, but it will dissuade some from doing it.

In my opinion if pot was legalized there would have to be some way of regulating the growing environment , just like in food service. You pay x amount of dollars for a license to grow, your grow area has to be inspected, and can randomly be inspected at later dates. we wouldnt want some dumbass growning weed in a sewer hole and spiking it with draino to make it stronger now do we?
