Gas Pipeline Explosion - North Texas 06-07-2010

I shot this video from the news chopper, and put together some of the best shots and audio I was hearing up there. Some of the audio is from me talking, the news anchors, or off air from the television. This was an amazing fire, and incredibly hot inside the chopper. Unfortunately, one person died after a crew installing power poles struck a 36 inch gas line. We see some amazing things from the helicopter, and our video was broadcast around the country.

Great video. Really shows how large and powerful this thing was!! I wish it was longer showing more of how the fire spread to the trucks.

@fredscooler The trucks were already burning when we arrived... probably from the initial blast and incredible heat. Because we were broadcasting continuously live, and had to keep focused on the fire. But thanks for the kind words. By the way, I had over three hours of video... just went thru and picked some cool shots

@davidkeith1990 Sorry about your Dad, I'm sure this is hard to watch. Most of the raw video of that day is now gone, as we shoot a lot of stuff, but I do have a couple videos of the "Live" reports we did from the chopper that day... you can see them at the links in the post below.

I am the person reporting. We came on scene, and were live for a couple hours. We didn't have really concrete information.

Incredible video. I worked for 3 yrs for KOCH Pipelines and had many close calls such as this. People not sending in One Calls for utilities to come out and mark such things as gas lines and then hitting them on accident. Ive had to crawl down into holes leaking high psi gas to shut off valves. Talk about scarry stuff and very loud!! Ive got pictures of a contractor hitting our gas line but it did not explode thankfully. Great Video!!

More people die from electrical shock in a year than natural gas and yea I work on gas lines, digging the sons of bitches up every day and never had an incident.

i hate natural gas! its too freaking dangerous! i wont even live in a house that has gas,it has to be all electric. last year i decided to rent a house that had gas and we had 4 gas leaks! the first one made us sick to our stomachs and light headed. never again! anyways,gas companies are money hungry greedy punks and i could care less if gas became extinct and they all lost their jobs.
