Indeed! I believe it was after watching Scandal in Bohemia (the first aired episode? I think?) that I changed my views so dramatically.

I remember...
this was the first episode of Jeremy Brett's work as Sherlock Holmes I watched. And I kept grousing that the man with the petri dish (his name escapes me) 'looked more like Holmes to me'.
...Of course, I learned better soon enough. Brett is now THE Holmes for me. :)

I'm glad you changed your mind! :) I know JB didn't look so the part in later episodes but that couldn't be helped due to ill health. I know it was a great frustration to him.
