NW Mountain Trail Championship Cattle Drive November 13, 2010: Showcases how well you can handle a cow on the trail, riders will be asked to maneuver cattle through parts of the trail course.
Here are a few clips I managed to get with my malfunctioning camera. The riders were given 5 minutes to rack up points. They got points for getting the cow to the end pen, and also for moving the cattle over and/or thru the obstacles. They could move the cow out of the end pen and drive them back onto the course as long as it was within the 5 minutes. I don't know any other details, but this class was very entertaining! There were a lot of really good horses and riders, some who didn't get to show their best work because of stubborn (or smart) cattle. Luck of the draw I guess :~))
Note the first two riders are on gaited horses (Paso's), and the last horse has no bridle on. I didn't keep track of the points or placing, I was having too much fun!

We have always called this "Cattle Drafting." I first became aware of this as a Austrailia sport... comes from cattle wandering though a camp site on cattle drives.
