My husband went through realtor school and got his license. At the time he also work at a condominium as a maintenance worker. I believe he was involved in 4 sales in a 2 year frame. He now works in the air conditioning field. Right now there is definitely a lot of money in real-state market in the economy. I wish you the best in this field. Hopefully you can make a go of this. You sound like you will be a great sales lady to give people advise on the potential of a home. Good luck.
I don't think you need to change your personality but develop and adapt it to succeed. There are probably a lot of people who would prefer a low key softer style of "selling" realtor now, rather than someone who's projecting sales techniques they learned but not really natural at it. It comes down to a natural (but developed) style for credibility in this new economic world where a lot of people are wary.
Yes, I think that there is more than one way to skin the cat, and I'm hoping that I won't have to try too hard to change my personality, since there will hopefully be people who will be ok with, or even prefer my style.
By getting your auctioneer license you become an automatic appraiser and you do not have to go to a third school for it.
The real-estate business is dog eat dog.
No one will have one up on you if you have it all covered. You will most likely have to work as an apprentice for a while depending on what State your in. I am so excited for you. This is a great business.
In this day and age you have to have a finger in one pot and a foot in another. If you can take two professions and blend them together and make one mega job; then your going to make money.
If and when the real estate business becomes slow and it will; the appraisal end comes in great when Finance companies & Banks need you to go in and do a appraisal.
Also insurance companies need you to do appraisals for riders on policy or Courts need appraisals in homes of a divorcing couple.
As an introvert forced into a life of extrovert behavior by business, someone gave me a good suggestion once..."if an introvert goes into sales they should consider becoming an expert on "soft" selling." That made sense to me anyway, although I never went into sales.
A real big social problem on the rise is that most of us 50-55 are not well prepared for retirement and we need to make a big adjustment. Otherwise it could be splitting pills and the monthly motel.
With that in mind I don't even consider large purchases for myself, everything is geared towards saving and preparing for retirement.
You will be entering an entirely different real estate world than the past 5 decades...perhaps that good: you'll be approaching it fresh.
Interesting, I don't know anything about auctions for houses. I only know of an occasional mega-forclosure auction that takes place every once in awhile, where the homes are all listed in a magazine for the attendees.
good luck. maybe the market will rebound soon.
you do know that housing market is struggling and many realtors are also struggling?
peace.
