James Williams, renown martial artist of the Bugei Trading Company in a full tameshigiri cutting demonstration. Tameshigiri is the practice of test cutting tatami mats with the Japanese sword. Tatami are straw mats, wetted and tightly rolled to resemble the consistency and resistance of a human limb. (In early Japanese times, the preferred cutting targets for tameshigiri were condemned criminals and cadavers.) This art takes years of practice and dedication to refine, and James Williams is a skilled artist, having trained for over 40 years in the martial arts. http://www.dojoofthefourwinds.com/instructor.html

  • @DonRubinjo "he wouldn´t cut amour with this strikes. He disrespects japanese swordsmanship with this stupid cutting."

This is called tameshigiri. It is VERY traditional in Japanese swordsmanship, and rather essential for perfecting technique. So how on earth is that disrespectful to ANYthing? And "try to cut stone to fuck it up"? Are you high? You are saying nothing but meaningless babble.

  • beautiful and excellent.

  • @CoolLikePenguinNuts You're right, that's why one needs to be smart about fighting. How to avoid a confrontation is just as important as what to do when it starts.

  • if im not mistaken this guy worked with crkt to design a few knives

  • Damn I can't help but think of what that would do to a human being. Those mats look tougher than my arms.

  • great weird and wonderful vid man

  • 1:02 cutting through the cross-section of the matt rolls= EPIC!

  • Less than 2 seconds to draw and cut... Nice!

Wouldn't want to be on the receiving side of that.

  • Wonderful technique. Very nice video

  • i respect the man an his arts, but comparing a japanese blade to a euro one is stupid. both are completely different in purpose. those were some just WOW cuts .you whole heartedly took alot of time to learn that, like anyone of any blade would have to do.
