@KingMartinou Umm, no. Saddam put himself in power by establishing heavy security forces for the Ba'ath party when he was the vice president of Iraq in the late 1960's. He pushed his minority Sunnis into power by systematically killing anyone else who opposed him. He was seen as being better than the Soviets at the time (makes sense), so the US aided Iraqi forces. Later, after the collapse of the USSR, he wasn't seen as less of a threat than they. Plus he used chemical weapons on his own people.
