hematopoiesis - the formation and development of blood cells, and can be divided into more specific groups such as erythropoiesis, leukopoiesis, and thrombopoiesis
myelocyte - a young white blood cell located in the bone marrow.
erythrocyte - a cell that contains hemoglobin and transports oxygen throughout the body; also known as a red blood cell (RBC)
leukocyte - a cell that helps fights disease and infection; also known as a white blood cell
platelet - a cell with no nucleus that is used in blood clotting; also known as a thrombocyte
fibrinogen - the protein in the plasma that produces fibrin, essential for blood clotting
folic acid - a water-soluble vitamin B involved in the production of amino acids, DNA, and RNA
hemolysis - the destruction of erythrocytes that releases hemoglobin into the blood plasma
hemostasis - the stopping of the flow of blood, bleeding, or hemorrhage
thrombosis - the presence of a blood clot
