And by the way you don't necessarily need to live in an era to understand something about it.

When the JP-8 was released I was 4 years old and indeed you are right. But we're talking about what it is today. Just the fact we all still are talking about the Jupiter and Roland uses the badge for its new models shows the relevance even till today. And I must say for me the Jupiter 80 and 50 have none. They are no Jupiters. They are only called so, same as the JUNO-D and G stuff are no Junos. Which is a pity.

You obviously weren't playing synths when the JP-8 was released or you would understand its design within the context of that era.

Who knows what Roland was "trying" to accomplish with the Jupiter 8. What matters is what they actually DID accomplish with it (same as with TR-808, TB-303 and others). Whenever I got my hands on a Jupiter 80, i never got warm with it. Not with the sound, not with the handling - at all. Jupiter 8 is instant understandable usage. Direct Access. They redid this 1991 with the JD-800. This thing here now is everything but a Jupiter: A superb analog synth with direct access instead of a grand piano.

You probably mean "totally different" sounding than a Jupiter-8. But wait a second...let me think...you are right! The Jupiter-50 has much better grand piano and nylon guitar patches than a Jupiter-8...*lol*
