The student newspaper at UMD - Diamondback, published a wrong map of India on their front page (http://print.umdbk.com/2011-11-23/0) on Nov 23 2011. The image of the map in DB grossly misrepresented India's boundaries. Jammu & Kashmir as well as 8 eastern states of India had been omitted. The Indian community on campus reacted to it by starting a signature campaign online, after which the newspaper published a clarification on Nov 28 (http://print.umdbk.com/2011-11-28/1).
Diamondback in it's clarification said that the map of India "did not include some disputed territory" and that it was "not intended as a political message". However, not all of the territory omitted in the graphic is "disputed". Moreover they have failed to provide the reference for the map used.
