I am not a Leftist. The Right should hate the banks too. They are anti-conservative, un-Christian, parasitical institutions. A conservative solution would be one where there is full employment and corporations, private or public, provide for the welfare of their workers. Lots of older conservatives in the US think this is the natural order, because they lived like this. Unfortunately, the politicians they elected destroyed it.

UK is like US. We destroyed our industrial sector. Now we produce next to nothing but "creative financial instruments", which destabilise our economies. We bail them out when they inevitably lose money.

This is not healthier than the economies of the 60s-70s with large-scale state intervention in economic management and more concern for full employment. When you have full employment, you don't need such a welfare state.

Not only coal. The result of her policies was to encourage financial speculation and discourage industrial production. According to the myths of free marketeers, her policies should have led to a huge increase in production/supply due to tax decreases. In fact, she destroyed it and Britain is only a big shopping mall. All the unemployed mine workers and factory workers went on the dole, which is more expensive than subsidising the industries, and you get NOTHING out of it. Stupid!

@maxime32 Productive capabilites? You mean the NATIONALISED coal industry that was losing the UK government millions? THe British economy was not destroyed by Thatcher, it was destroyed by its own inefficiencies and by being generally crap compared to foreign reliable, good-quality products.Those banks that the left hate so much provide all the tax revenue for their utopian dreams of everone being 'equal' ie creating a generation of yobs dependent on the state.

Thatcher destroyed the productive capabilities of the British economy. Real conservatives haven't controlled the British Conservative Party for many decades.

Britain is full of wooly-minded liberal morons who dont live in the real world. This can be evidenced by the electoral results in 2010. Everyone knows that the socialist labour government nearly bankrupted our country, took away freedoms with their nanny-state bollocks and the electorate still didnt give the conservative opposition a definite majority thanks to the liberal moron party stealing wooly minded middle class voter's votes.
