this promo gave me nightmares for years to come. I remember waking up seeing saturday nights re run at midnight and being scared shitless. Good times

@ebailey140 Again, the ratings soared because two superstars jumped ship. Not over the hill slobs people were sick of, but stars in their prime. It was new, and it caught a lot of buzz. People tuned in to see what they would do.
The problem is, they never did anything. Had no memorable matches, just cut promos over and over, ambushed people, and ran in on each other's boring matches. The angle wasn't blown off until Starrcade 1997 -- 18 months later -- and that match sucked too.

@ebailey140 Again, you're equating success with being entertaining or inventive. The WWE is successful now, but that doesn't make the show any good.

@terracottapie If that were the case, the rating would have spiked when Hogan and Savage were being their WWF characters when they first went to WCW. It didn't. The ratings soared with something people hadn't seen, before. Vince acknowledges the nWo angle changed everything and brought in a new era, and he's in a position to know, wouldn't you say?
Where it failed was running it into the ground after it should have finished.
