  • if you hook it to a battery to charge it, what stops the power from the battery just running the mottor

  • @TopOfTheLine3 You use a blocking diode in series with the positive wire. Basicly acts like a one way valve for current to flow one direction.

  • Even if is isn't generating 12v would it still trickle charge a 12v battery and how long do you think this would take? Why didn't you use a car alternator?

Also If you made the blades larger do you think you could gear it to spin the motor faster? Thank you.

  • @josheskimo You actually need to produce more voltage to start charging the battery. There are PMA generators that look like a regular car alternator, but they are modified for wind turbines. Produce power at low RPMs. A regulat car alternator requires too many RPMs, which is too fast for wind application.

  • Have you tried to charge a 12 volt battery yet? where did you find the motor?

  • @shartne Got motor from Ebay. I do have my wind generator mounted above my house now, approx 26 feet in the air. (I need to post an updated video...) I live in a low wind area. (FL) I need about a 12 mph wind to start charging batteries over 12V. I generally see anywhere from 1-3 amps on a breezy day. 4-8 amps in more gusty wind which is only before a storm. So basicly it's a fancy, neat looking trickle charger. I dont recomend the Ametek motors. Spend alittle more for a PMA. More wind helps too

  • @YoLninYo It was not a street sign from intersection. It was an old hand held crossing guard sign that was given to me for scrap aluminum.

  • I like the simplicity of your generator, nice job!

  • ive built two so far, useless to be fair, used a tredmill motor, i get a lot more reliable power to charge my 2 12v deep cycle batterys with a 50w mono panel.

i did really enjoy building them so not to put anyone off.

a good motor (not cheap)is the only way to go with hawt or vawts.

    happy building.

  • COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

  • hemmm... wonder where he got that STOP sign :p

  • when the produced voltage is inferior to the battery one, they do not charge, but if you do not place any diode between the motor and the battery, i think the battery will make the wind generator spin. no?

  • lolz pipe nipple

  • The amtex 38 will work but you need to gear it up. The Amtex 30 would have been better. or Amtex 90 the best, but trying to find them, thats the hard part

  • to the guy that posted the video. I dont know anything about power at all but am going to build a wind turbine. I am not interested in anyones comments nor will i read them except for the owner of this video. with that turbine how many light bulbs could I light at once say they are 60 watt bulbs and thats all i want to know. Thank you.
