Choosing the right contractor is very important. To protect yourself you should always ask for references and referrals and get evidence of past experience. Are they fully insured? Are they fully licensed? Make sure you know what you're getting with your quote -- have them break it down. Ask for a written contract -- there are QBSA contracts, there are Homebuilders Association contracts. Most of all, always get all their particulars, all their details. Don't judge a book by its cover -- a bloke may come in and be nice and cheap, but even a job for two to three thousand dollars is a lot to have to replace.
