  • 1:24 "a number behind the last letter, like a 5.13a" that would be a LETTER behind the last NUMBER hun. these videos are all so wrong...

  • To clear things up. The larger the number the harder the grade. the 5 in 5.9 states that the terrain is vertical and one should should use safety equipment. Around the 70's more climbers began to climb harder the grade of 5.9. They jokingly called the new grade 5.10. A letter grade was added after the number do to variation of difficultly a--d. 5.10a being the easiest and 5.10d being hardest for 5.10. To simply put it the higher the letter and number means a harder climb.

  • 5.13a is a little more difficult than your typical 5.13a?
