What a joke. Belltown is dangerous? I used to live in Somalia. I carried a 5 inch knife with me at all times as well as a concealed desert eagle. The only thing the yuppies and hipsters in Belltown have to worry about is douchebag cyclists and where they can find another vintage scarf.
Some parts of belltown are pretty nice while others (most of it, it seems) is ghetto and lots of homless and drug addicts. I went to the Art Instutite for a year and left a week and half ago, and I lived in their dorms in belltown. I would see, homless people, drug adicts, sketchy ghetto people hanging around the Social services office and cops on their bikes. My teacher would say about belltown, "as long as you run faster than the person you are with, you are good" lol. He was right.
It's a pretty town with nice people in the day. At night... I couldn't agree more. I'm going to guess that you were going to see somebody play at the Crocodile... I stayed right across the street when I was in Seattle and nobody goes to sleep. The person in the room above me was still up playing his guitar at 5AM. Drunk people were meandering around the streets yelling all night. It's coincidental that you call it that, because after day three of being there, I was calling it Hell City.
I've watch Belltown turn more ghetto ever year from people who dont even live in the neighborhood. The residence and the cops are pissed off now. At this point, to those who don't have any legit business here I say STAY THE FOOK OUT! GO F YOUR OWN HOOD UP.
I live in Belltown. Sometimes it's cool to be near good restaurants, but honestly...it's really crazy here. I've seen some really awful behavior...and it's not even like it's on the weekends. It's every single night. I moved here to be close to work, but now I do think I've got to move out to Queen Anne, Ballard, or the Hill (east side, not near Broadway...). What area do you live in?
