@Mutedvox Let's be clear. Reagan's polcies were based, largely, on free narket solutions to economic problems. As a result: Inflation dropped from 13.5% in 1981 to 4.1% in 1988. Interest rates decreased from 18% in 1981 to 8% in 1987. Unemployment dropped from over 10% in 1981-82 to 5.5% in 1989. Some 20 million jobs were created. Individual income increased by 15.5%. The income of families increased by 12.5% Govt revenues doubled. Reagan showed us what works economically. It must be done again!
@USSJ3 that's just delusional.....how is it that we ignored afghanistan for so long and all of a sudden we got some kind of conscience? please. your argument about the soviets reminds me of saudi arabia and hearing about this guy who was hit by a saudi. the saudi blames the non national for the accident because if he hadn't been there the saudi wouldn't have hit him. that's your logic. pretty absurd.
@Mutedvox I've heard of WIKI and I use other sources. At the end of the day, the crux of your arguement was that Reagan was either involved or incompetent. Neither is the case, nor does it matter now. The reason: We have much bigger fish to fry. Mute. Our nation is heading in a downard spiral created by the hands of bureaucrats. That course has to be changed. Do you disagree?
@Mutedvox Typical liberal. All Reagan did was to help the Afghans fight the Soviets. It was only afterwards that extremists took what had been given to them, and use it to create a terrorist organization. Your claim that Reagan was directly responsible is factually untrue. If anything, the Soviets were more to blame because they attacked thier country in the first place. I suppose you would have preferred that the Afghans be under the thumb of the Soviets?
@USSJ3 In Poindexter's hometown of Odon, Indiana, a street was renamed John Poindexter Street. Bill Breeden, a former minister, stole the street sign in protest of the Iran-Contra Affair. He claimed that he was holding it for ransom of $30 million, reference to the amount of money given to Iran to transfer to the Contras. He was arrested and confined to prison, making him, as satirically noted by Howard Zinn, "the only person to be imprisoned as a result of the Iran-Contra Scandal."
@USSJ3 this is from WIKI if you trust them: Thomas G. Clines was a Central Intelligence Agency covert operations agent who was a prominent figure in the Iran-Contra Affair. John Poindeter National Security Advisor (R) convicted of 5 counts of conspiracy, obstruction of justice, perjury, defrauding the government, and the alteration and destruction of evidence. The Supreme Court overturned this ruling.
@Mutedvox As to millionaires: That was concerning loopholes, and certain tax breaks. But you also have to bear in mind that it didn't increase tax rates on them. In fact, he did the opposite, reducing individual tax rates by 25% AND a 10% Investment Tax Credit. It led to the rich making much more money AND to an increase in thier overall tax burden, but not to tax rate increases which liberal want. Reagan changed over time to be increasingly Conservative. He certainly was as president.
@USSJ3 he was directly responsible for helping create what became al qaeda. and you conservatives have no relationship with facts. you can have your opinion just not your own facts.
@Mutedvox As to Poindexter, I guess the news I saw at the time lied then. As to Clines, if it had nothing to due with I/C why is his name associated with it?
@USSJ3 cause and effect. good night.
