Ecosan- Opening of the compost chamber, Nagasandra village Karnataka India

Mythri Sarva Seva Samithi, Gram Panchayat, WASTE and the farmers have implemented 9 UDDT toilets in Nagasandra village in the year 2008 . On the 1st of September, 2009 the first composting/dessicating chamber was opened in the presence of the village leaders and farmers.
The compost had no smell was excellently composted/dessicated and has been picked up for pathogen and nutrient analysis. In the same village the Arghyam- GKVK Centre of Excellence on productive sanitation runs a farmers field trial. The latest experiment has been on Ash gourd and this too has shown excellent results with human urine application in 3 split doses.
Productive sanitation has a bright future if executed properly.

This is absolutely amazing Mr. Vishanath! Next is to see if Biogas can be obtained from this?

Not really possible in a small family toilet to generate enough biogas. This method already reuses all nutrients plus provides safe sanitation :)

Ah, I see. What if we find a way to combine with Kitchen waste and live stock waste? Or is it too complicated to implement?

Isn't the methane going to the atmosphere in the current ecosans a cause for concern?

Since there is no anaerobic decomposition, simply dessication of the dry faeces, there is virtually no methane generation here at all. In fact even the ammonia is captured from the urine if applied fresh to the soil :)

Of course if you have a gobar gas plant already makes sense to send this in to it too.

sooner or later this is the way.or else continue to drink fecal contaminated water.auroville has a nice similar toilet in american pavilion if im right.pl do one on gandhian toilet too.he had nice ideas on this subject too.
