Nice place for a rally: Thousands protest G20 in France
Published: 02 November, 2011, 09:18
Over 10,000 people have marched in Nice to protest against the upcoming G20 summit. The crowds, angry with the financial system and invigorated by the global "Occupy" movement, demanded governments focus on people more than corporations.

The G20 summit will kick off on Thursday further down the coast in Cannes, and the host, France, says it wants this summit on its picturesque Mediterranean coast to reflect the importance of emerging nations in the world.

But as the financial situation worsens in both the US and European Union, the leaders may find it even harder to ignore the outcry this time, when more and more people now realize that economists always spot self-interest behind such noble claims.

The G20 Summit and Occupy Wall Street
Posted: 11/1/11 11:24 AM ET
The G20 meets in Cannes this week with a second chance to get it right and produce the leadership to move the world away from the economic and social abyss. After the financial crisis broke in 2008, there was a flurry of coordinated activity but since then the G20 has been all but paralyzed. Positive action is required as the fires of protest blaze across the world.

France, the motherland of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, would be a fitting place for the G20 leadership to launch a new social contract in response to the growing unrest. The financial crisis has revealed that the social order created in the post-war social contract has been systematically torn to pieces by the business and political elites and their think tank cohorts. It's not only in France where the principles of Liberté, Fraternité, Egalité have been stripped away and replaced by Individualté, Inegalité and the illusion of financial wealth.

G20 protest march: live report

By Nick Morrison (AFP) -- 1 day ago

Thousands of anti-capitalists poured through the French Riviera city of Nice on Tuesday afternoon in a march against corporate greed ahead of the G20 summit beginning in nearby Cannes on Thursday, echoing protests worldwide.

AFP is now closing this live report but read on to find out how the peaceful demonstration unfolded:

1710 GMT: "The turnout was around what we predicted, we got a great welcome, from people watching from their windows and those we came across along the route," says Franck Gaye, one of the protest's organisers.

"I just hope the governments will now listen to the people."

  • g20 meetings should be taking place in some rich asshole's 20 acre ranch in the middle of nowhere and NOT in a tax-payers domain, like a city center.

    get it right!

  • and so it has begun...

  • those who appose peaceful revolution will witness a violent revolution.

i don't want to be the police on that day.

  • Anything a federal government does is a felony, criminal act.

It's funding needs to be cut off.

    NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!

By the way, there aren't police there. It's a foreign invading army dressed as police.

  • Smart government always makes sure it's people versus people. Divide and conquer. The sooner we all start to realize that, the sooner we can change the game; At least for a little while. At least until it is corrupted again. "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

  • People are waking up to the realities of the fake wars, the military industrial complex and corporatocracy. They understand that the 1% are playing a game of monopoly and chess and sending vets to the frontlines while their own sons and daughters sleep in palaces. Cops on the other hand dont realize this. But people are products of their environment. Cops get a paycheck to do what they are doing while the vets are discarded after being used. It is not ppl vs ppl but ppl vs money. No more money

  • @222libertarian

    Dear Stalin

We are quite happy to finance your revolution. The cheaque is in the mail.

    - Wall Street.

  • @222libertarian Well said. Amazing how weak some minds can be...

  • @222libertarian Man, Stalin is a pretty ignorant guy.

  • Thanks for posting this, Comrade. Keep it up as its useful idiots like yourself that allowed me to get away with the extermination of 40 million of my own people during my career AND get away with it. The Greeks are like the lazy adolescent living in your cellar rent free, eating all your food and drinking all your liquor.

Come to think of it thats exactly what the Occupiers are: Spoiled lazy brats.

    Love and kisses,

    ~Joe Stalin (Genocidal maniac)
