2011-08-01 UPDATE: Flash Wolf's Tweaked Gingerbread ROM for the best performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHBYJW2verg&hd=1
The official v2.3 Gingerbread update started rolling out on 2011-07-29. This video shows two methods of updating the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 to v2.3 Gingerbread.
Method 1: Works on ANY phone. Does NOT require root.
Method 2: Works on ANY phone with xRecovery installed (rooted). Installs a pre-rooted firmware.
Flashing does NOT affect SIM/network unlocking. Unlocking is ONCE and PERMANENT. Flashing does NOT unlock a locked phone -- buy an unlock code.
To root the official v2.3.3 firmware, follow the instructions in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196808
Rooting is, however, OPTIONAL and allows the use of applications that modify the system.
e.g. Titanium Backup, SetCPU (overclock), etc.
Rooting does NOT make the Market free. (Seriously, you think Google would have a security hole like this???)
As of 2011-07-31, only the X10i generic firmware has been released. However, all firmwares work on all phones without issue. Flashing an "i" firmware onto an "a" phone will NOT give you 3G in an "i" zone (only 3G in an "a" zone). Flashing an "a" firmware onto an "i" phone will NOT give you 3G in an "a" zone (only 3G in an "i" zone). The radios are FIXED and not changable through firmware.
Upgrade your AT&T Xperia X10 to v2.3 Gingerbread NOW! AT&T will NOT be updating the X10 any further.

@ackos03 Use Sony Ericsson's X10 Backup program or any of the dozens of backup applications on the Market (e.g. Titanium Backup). You can then reinstall the official Sony X10 Backup application once you flash to v2.3 and restore your data. It's in the MediaFire folder.
The generic firmware has dozens of languages from Chinese to Russian and yes, Espagnol is included.
