Jack could have lost his life if his loving owner hadn't persisted in trying to find a safe place for him when he found he could no longer keep his dog. The first shelter he tried informed him that Jack would be euthanized if a home could not be found quickly enough. Jack's owner took him away from there and kept looking. Eventually, he made his way to West Suburban Humane Society, where Jack will be given whatever time he needs to find a new home. WSHS is as close to "no-kill" as shelters come. Animals are very rarely euthanized, typically due to untreatable illness, or behavioral issues that cannot be solved through training, fostering, etc. Luckily for Jack, he has lovely manners, so his future looks bright from here on. As a Great Pyranees Mix, Jack is the epitome of a "gentle giant". "Pyrs" have been bred for centuries as sheep-herding dogs, and so are typically very gentle, and even protective, of small helpless creatures, whether animal or human. Jack is calm and obedient, even with handlers he outweighs! He knows his basic commands, and makes friends pretty easily, though initial reserve with strangers is characteristic of the breed. This exceptional dog is going to be a wonderful addition to some lucky adopter's family.
