Me and my friend Molly had a pre-algebra project in which we had to teach everything we've learned so far in a creative way. Since we both love music, we wrote song parodies and made music videos for ours.

In this parody of Love Story by Taylor Swift, we teach you how to add rational numbers. I wrote the song with help from Molly, so credit goes to us.

The lyrics:

We were both young
When we first learned this
I close my eyes
And the flashback starts in my head
The numbers fill me with dread
(Cos it's hard-hard-hard)

Decimals, fractions, and
Regular numerals
How do I
Remember the rules?
And then you say,
"I have figured out an easy way."

You were Mrs.Mellon
You were teaching me rationals
I raised my hand and said,
"I don't get it."
You smiled at me sayin,
"Please don't give up."

And you said,
"Molly, let's start simple
You don't have to be confused
Regular numbers
Like two and two
Imagine like pencils
You're combinin with your friend's
It's an easy math skill
Molly, you'll pass the test."

So I learned how
To add two and two
But I keep quiet
Cos I'm still confused
I close my eyes
Decimals make me cry
(Cos they're hard-hard-hard)

Do I line up the decimal
Or move it afterward?
And what is that funky-lookin
"Sanjibulark" word?
And then you say,
"Pretend her name's just Jane!"

You were my teacher
I was failing pre-algebra
When you handed back the test
My dad said, "WHAT THE?"
I was cryin on paper
You said, "Please don't give up."

And you said,
"Molly let's start simple
You don't have to confused
Imagine 3.5
And 2.2
Line up the decimal
And add like normal
It's an easy math skill
Molly, you'll pass the test."

My grades were now
Raising
But I was wondering if fractions would bring me down
My faith in math was
Fading
When you took me to Pizza Town

And I said,
"Teacher, save me
I've been feeling so confused
We're getting pizza
WHAT THE POO POO?
You said you'd teach me fractions
Instead you bought me dinner."

You stood up on the table
And you started to sing,

"Molly, let's start simple
You don't have to be confused
Fractions are decimals
With a few extra rules
Fix the denominator
By finding the LCF
Add the numerators
Molly, you'll pass the test."

Whoa oh
Whoa oh-oh-oh

Cos we were both young
When we first learned this
