Surgeons at Children's Hospital Boston performed a serial transverse enteroplasty (STEP) bowel lengthening and tapering procedure on a pediatric patient with short bowel syndrome (SBS) during a live webcast. The Webcast is part of Children's ongoing effort to bring its pioneering care and technology to specialists and referring physicians around the world and allow consumers to see the latest and most innovative medical treatments available.

  • My son Devin had two STEP's done before he was even 5 months old... The surgery didn't work for him either time and so he had to be listed for a liver, bowel, pancreas transplant. He had/has short bowel syndrome secondary to gastroschisis and bowel atresia. 18 months old, 8 months post transplant and still has SBS and still TPN dependent...

    But I have seen and heard of MANY other people and children going great after a STEP or two...
