*ALTERNATIVE VERSION* This electric version of the song appeared as the B - side of the USA single 'I Can See For Miles'. It features Al Kooper of Blood, Sweat, & Tears fame on the organ. This is a more fun and lively version of the original which appeared on The Who Sell Out.

Images accompanying the song are from the era. My apologies to Diana Rigg who I shamelessly stole images of to use as my 'Mary Anne'.

  • Loved the original version but this is so much better. Whoever put together the video photos did a brilliant job (and was obviously a big fan of the lovely Diana Rigg).

  • I always kinda thought Pete Townshend was not being entirely honest when he wrote "Guys come from every city just to shake her shaky hands."

I'm inclined to think they probably came for sompm else. ;)

  • PETE

Y U NO USE THIS VERSION FOR SELL-OUT?

  • @mikal9000 Have to agree that Michelle Phillips was just transcendentally beautiful.

  • The best version of this song appears on Odds and Sods.

  • i never heard this version before, i agree it's better than the one featured on The Who Sell Out.

  • Nice video.

  • Hats off to azcarf44 to this great video! I love the style in which you did it! Love the straight edits with the zoom going. That old fashioned style. If I had a band and we were able to have a screen behind us with film, this would be something I'd have in mind. Oh and of course, love this version of "Mary Anne."

  • @SunnBurn Oh I'm sure Mary Anne would be willing to "shake" to any version! LOL.

  • hey, thanks for this, never heard this version before - excellent !!

  • Thought i'd seen/heard all The Who stuff and now this comes along. Great Alternate Version and a big thumbs up to whoever did the video. Great stuff :)

  • I'm amazed this song got past the censors in 1967. Of all the versions I have heard, I like the acoustic-guitar-heavy album version best.

I wonder: which version does Mary Anne likes best?
