WATCH IN HD!

Here is a demo of all 3 amps.
- Rhythm guitar is a Gibson Les Paul standard running into an '86 Marshall JCM 800 2205

-Lead guitar is a G&L ASAT Classic running through a '92 Marshall 6100 (EL34) -- Channel 2C

-2nd Lead is a Gibson SG standard running through a Hughes and Kettner Duotone running on KT77's

All amps ran into a 2x12 Mesa recto cab loaded with Celestion Vintage 30's. The cabinet was miked with a Unidyne SM57 and a Sennheiser MD 421. From there the signal when into a Digidesign C|24 board and then to Pro Tools HD 7.4. This is the instrumental of one of the demos I have been working on. I mixed the guitars loud for this video.

The band is Branson. The song is "Light a Match".

  • I was wondering...... is the ASAT Classic beefy enough for great solos with sustain? I mean; isnt it thin like the usual single-coils in fender strats? I'm thinkin of buyin one but im not 100% sure...thanks in advance and btw keep rockin good man; excellent music bro

  • @DjNorbax Not nearly as twangy as typical Tele p-ups. They are much more dark and have a bit more beef. I would personally go with a Gibson LP if you are all about the solos. I play almost all rhythm guitar, and the G&L ASAT is perfect for that.

  • WHAT'S THE NAME OF THE SONG?!!?!?

  • @topaccer "Light a Match". It was by my band, Branson, when I lived in Syracuse. myspace(dot)com(slash)bransonny

  • Hey, I just purchased a 1987 Marshall JCM 800 2205 partially after watching this video. I am the rhythm guitar player in my band and love the tone of the 2205. Your tone and your song are amazing, and I am a live concert sound engineer by career. What preamp tubes in what valve slots (1-5) are you using (type/brand)? Also, what power tubes are you using (type/brand)? What are your 2205 amp settings? I am waiting for my amp to show up and am curious how you accomplish this rhythm tone.

  • @tdvf1100 Preamp valves are eastern european National 12AX7's. Power amp is JJ E34L's. Presence completely rolled off. Bass at 2:00 o'clock. Middle at noon. Treble at 11 o'clock. Gain was around 2:30 o'clock. I have played so many 800's and have never heard one that sounds like mine. Mine is like an 800 breeded with a recto. It is really fizzy.

  • jammed over this with a jh-1 jackhammer distortion pedal was epic

    amazing song dude

  • Beautiful song man...!

  • @tdvf1100 It's my belief that the JCM800 was the last of the truly classic Marshall amps. I had a JCM800 half stack as well as a 900 and a JTM600 through a TV cab loaded with greenbacks and the 800 left them all for dead. No effects required just pure Marshall tone.

  • Thanks for the info. I really do like the way the rhythm track came out here. I have many preamp 12AX7 tubes including some NOS RFT tubes. I will be trying them all in different valves once I get the amp. I thought I heard the JJ EL34L power tube sound, but I was not sure. I am also going to experiment with some THD yellow jackets model YJS with JJ EL84 tubes. I am curious just how this will effect the typical marshall classic crunch. I will keep you posted. Thanks again.
