Doing a little something different and posting a song made in the last few years, but as you can hear has a strong old school sound..

Here we have Sweet Honey In The Rock singing the old hymn, sung in the congregational Negro spiritual style. This song is a throw back to the roots of gospel, the Negro Spiritual..

  • I picked up a copy of I Got Shoes when I was 14, fell in love with SHITR. So glad you posted this, I love really gritty bluesy gospel.

Also, I love this pic you used. Where did you get it? Can I have a copyof it for my desktop?

  • Im not sure if i have it anymore, but if I can find it, it's yours!

  • oo this makes me wanna go to church more often thanx for posting. I'm feelin' this on Sunday morning!

  • I'm glad you were blessed Sis! Keep on keepin on!

  • you have the lyrics?

  • When I tread the verge of Jordan,

    Bid my anxious fears subside;,

Sail me through the swelling Jordan,

And land me safe on Kingdom's side.

Songs of praises, songs of praises,

I will ever give to Thee.

Songs of praises, songs of praises,

I will ever give to Thee.

  • @DaSourcespr06 Thank you. Thank you. thank you.!

  • Stunning, stunning, stunning. This is more than soul music. This is THE SOUL!

  • Singing doesn't get much better than SHITR. Bluesy, gospel soul stirring. The epitome of Soul Music. The voices of Mother God, IMHO.

  • "But hear, ye women, a word of Jehovah, And your ear receiveth a word of His mouth, And teach ye your daughters wailing, and each her neighbour lamentation." (Jeremiah 9:20, YLT)

  • @jonesrsteven

There is not one note of blues in this entire version. Nor one bit of grit.

  • Wow, their version gives me goosebumps.

  • yes yes yes!

  • This music is so haunting and so amazing. Their voices on all of their music just blows my mind.
