  • Must of been a different Navy than the U.S.

No wonder you got of the Navy since you show no respect. As an E-8 I take serious offense to your comment.

  • Although I do not agree with McCains strategy I highly take offense at your comment. Chiefs run the Navy, period. If you were truly in the Navy, like I was, there is no rate in it that would make you a chief in 5 years. A nuc in a sub or a Seal (which are the fastest in promotion) would never make chief in 5 yr.

    Normal Navy Promotion

    E-1 to E-2 - Nine months TIR.

    E-2 to E-3 - Nine months TIR.

    PO3(E-4)-6 months TIR

    PO2(E-5)-12 months TIR

    PO1(E-6)-36 months TIR

    CPO(E-7)-36 months TIR

  • Clearly I put my foot in my mouth because you stated the retention rates? You have no clue what you are fucking talking about.

Being proud of != retention rates.

  • Ya that's why the Army and Marines have the lowest retention of any service because they "are proud" and love what they are doing. Would you like to insert your foot in your mouth again or hide behind your anonymity?

  • I'm in agreement with Swami, and if you did your research you'd know that Petty Officer's used to be pilots and had more enemy kills in World War I and II then any officer. I don't like Mccain but I can respect what he has to say and if you can't then your a douchebag.

  • I like President Kennedy's comment on his pride in being able to say: "I served in the United States Navy." Nothing to be ashamed of, a lot to be proud of.

  • Something doesn't make sense here. "Most seamen are ashamed of their service?" Excuse me--how did you find this out? Through interviews or by a projection of your very own negativity?

  • If you honestly believe that the average promotion time to achieve e-3 is 18 months, You really have not been in the navy.

Most bootcamps leave as E-3s. Lastly, school promotion + EPs = E5 in less than 3 years.

Lastly, Most chiefs in the navy do not show respect. As respect works both ways. The navy is a joke, and most seaman are ashamed of their service. Whereas marines and army are proud.

Enjoy your E8, lifer. Most likely you are a reservist.

  • In my brief 24 years in the Navy, any Officer worth their salt are thankful to the Chief that took them under their wings in the early years. Although I do not agree with McCain on everything, and I think all politicians are problematic and forgetful from where they came, he may be the closest we will ever get to a centrist and true constructionist from what we have to pick from. We can never go back, but God I wish there was a clone to President Regan! We could use true and honest leadership

  • You obviously have issues! But I am a retired Navy Chief too!

  • John McCain showing his respect...this Navy mom appreciates that.

  • KISS ASS
