You want the spinnaker either fully raised or packed on deck so hoist like crazy

The spinnaker needs to go up MUCH faster. Pull like hell until it hits the top and then make sure the trimmer get's the guy pulled straight back. That helps to prevent twists getting into the kite. Also, run the tapes on the kite before hand and it should go up straight. :)

Great video....I worked the foredeck for many years on a racing team out of Hampton VA. We practiced sail changes all the time to include the spinnaker. Of course one time we raised the spinnaker sideways was in a race. So all the other boats in the fleet got to enjoy watching us lower and raise our spinnaker while racing. Thanks for bringing back great memories of my sailing/racing days.

LOL. Notice the spinnaker pole still on the foredeck about 2 minutes into the video. Oh, they figured it out about 3 minutes into the video. Now if they learn how to keep it trimmed, they'll be set.

I am not a sailor but notice on other spinnaker vids they were using a spinnaker pole.

I think you're supposed to use a pole to stretch it out to catch the wind and also laying off the booze would help.
