Chapter 5
"What's happening?" Nick asked.
"She's having an asthma attack!" I said.
"Move out of the way. I know what to do," Kevin said.
"Okay..." Nick and I both said.
"Sydney, you need to focus. Do you have an inhaler?" Kevin asked.
Sydney pointed at a kitchen drawer.
Kevin ran faster than I've seen anyone run before over to the drawer in the kitchen. He ripped it open and found the inhaler, then practically flew back over to Sydney.
He shoved the inhaler in her mouth and told her to breathe in. She did, a few times. I wrapped my hand in Nick's. Then, to our relief, Sydney started breathing again.
"Are you alright??" Nick asked.
She just stared at Kevin. "You saved my life."
"It was nothing," he said, blushing.
"Yes, it was. You saved me!! Thank you so much," Sydney said, smiling and looking into his eyes. Then she leaned in to Kevin and kissed him on the cheek. He blushed and smiled.
I just stared at them. I wish I was that brave. But I don't want to move too fast. Just then I realized I was still holding Nick's hand. I started to blush and Nick noticed. He smiled.
We all stood there in silence. Just then, Joe and Emily walked inside.
"Hey," Nick said quickly.
"Hi Mr. President," Joe said.
I laughed. "Yeah. You'll be the President in Year 3000," I joked.
Nick blushed. "I know," he said.
Emily and Joe sat down. "Where'd you two go?" I asked them.
"Bowling," Joe said.
"Yeah. I suck," Emily said.
"You did better than me," Joe said, embarrassed.
"Oh yeah," Emily said.
Just then, we noticed Sydney laying on the kitchen floor, Kevin beside her, whispering softly to her.
"What happened here?" Joe asked suspiciously.
We laughed, knowing what he was thinking.
"She had a few second asthma attack," Nick said.
Joe sarcastically put both hands on his cheeks and made a surprised face. "OH NO!"
Nick punched him in the arm. "It's not funny," he said.
"YEAH, JOE!" I said, laughing. "She could've DIED!" I said, trying to get Sydney and Kevin's attention. But we could see that wasn't going to happen anytime soon.
We saw Sydney nod, and then Kevin grabbed her hand and helped her up. They started to go towards the door, but before they could get there, Joe went in the door frame and put his legs and arms at the sides of them.
"What?" Kevin said.
"I need to see an ID," he said.
Kevin rolled his eyes.
"Where are you going?" Joe asked.
"Out," Kevin said and pushed Joe out of the way.
"Jeez," Joe said, regaining balance, "A little grouchy today?"
Kevin and Sydney ignored him and went to Kevin's car.
"Well then," Joe said with a hint of fake hurt in his voice.
I was still holding Nick's hand. He didn't seem to have the urge to let go, either. Yay!!! I thought.
Nick looked at me and smiled. "Let's check if there's any baseball games going on tonight," he said.
"Yay!" I said.
"I need to gain some pounds," Joe said, looking randomly at his stomach.
"What the heck?" Nick said.
"Joe, you're amazing the way you are," Emily said.
Joe said, "I know. I just wanted attention."
Nick and I rolled our eyes and headed into his room for the computer.
Joe said, "You kids be good!" We ignored him.
Just then, as we were headed to his computer, I remembered that we were in New York and Nick's favorite baseball team is the New York Yankees. This will be really fun, I thought to myself.
When we got to Nick's room, I was surprised his room was so clean. In Joe's room, you couldn't see the floor and there was a lot of random food around. Kevin's was the same, minus all the food.
But Nick's was perfectly organized. There was not one pair of jeans, T-shirt, or hoodie on his floor. All the CDs and DVDs and stuff were together. His guitar was beside the keyboard in his room, and I
REALLY felt like playing both of them.
We walked over to his computer, and when it turned on, a familiar face was on the screen . . .
