Girolamo Frescobaldi (born Ferrara 1583 -1643),was a student of Luzzaschi and he was the teacher of Froberger, and possibly Kerll. Organist at Rome's Accademia di Santa Cecilia in 1604 . Went to the low countries at Brussels (1607-1608)and Antwerp. Later he became organist at the St. Peter's, Rome, where he served until his death. (Except for six years in the court of Florence (1628- 1634).)

  • It is interesting how Frescobaldi exploits the unequal temperaments of his day. I play this piece in 1/4 comma meantone set to B-- its truly haunting and send shivers down my spine.
