Original video by RocketmanKoehler seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVwlodvWh7w

This video was taken by RocketmanKoehler at Lake Hood Seaplane Base, in Anchorage AK, back in June of 2009. I have edited the video, and added ATC communications with the aircraft during its westbound departure, when . . . you just have to see for yourself. *ANY AND ALL video credits go to its original owner, and please realize that I did not record this video. *

Wow . . . that's all I can say. Comment on what you have to say...

  • To all the people asking why he didn't use the channel, well basically when you apply power on a sea plane as powerful as the beaver, the torque and slipstream is such that it actually makes the airplane yaw to the left, so before you apply power you actually align the plane around 30 degrees to the right to counteract that effect, I dont know exactly why the pilot didn't do it, but in my experience when atc clears you with no delay, you tend to forget things

  • Atleast it will be easy to clean up.

  • I'm not a pilot, so I can't say what caused this, but I think the cameraman had a significant part in the crash. When the plane heeled over and headed for the dirt, if no one was there, the pilot could have just smacked the beach, done some damage, and that would be that. Instead, the pilot desperately tries to pull up and to the right so as not to turn mr. camera guy into mulch, and stalls the plane. Luckily, no one was hurt in this accident. (again, just my opinion)

  • I didn't think that they actually caught this on tape wow.

  • $600,000 plane destroyed because someone didnt want to reduce power and try his taxi again

  • You can just barely see the other plane on final approach behind him that reported the crash.

  • let this be a lesson... no texting while taking off...

  • @MrGarcia2703

That's it? Lol, no this guy made no attempt to get the aircraft on the step. It seems to me he's never had any instruction in how to fly a float plane.

  • @MrGarcia2703 I see where you're coming from, but your statements about dragging the left heel still can spawn from a crosswind. If he was trying to lift off, like you said, not only one side would come out of the water. There would have to be some force, be it pilot error or wind that would push that side into the water. Like you said above, it could be from the lack of rudder to compensate for the torque of the engine.
