  • @seanofafrica - Yes he holds the age group 100m WR (10.88) and 200m (22.44). He also ran the 200 with a 23.61 semi-final (before breaking down and finishing last in the final) and he ran lead off in the M50 4x100 whch won in 45.92

  • @broadjumper1 Never knew Gault still ran. Just looked it up: 10.96s into a HEADWIND, age 50. What an inspirational figure! Thanks.

  • @seanofafrica

Yes an interesting final with, Gault (who STILL runs today in masters competitions and can run under 11.00 at age 50), 27' long jumper LaMonte King, Dwayne Evans, the '76 200m bronze medalist, and Mark Duper, future All-Pro wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins.

  • @broadjumper1 Wow, thanks for this! Willie Gault was another natural, beautiful stylist - and an awesome hurdler.

  • @seanofafrica - The results weren't particularly good as it was rainy and cold with a -1.5 headwind. 1. 20.49 James Butler 2. 20.54 Cliff Wiley 3. 20.70 Fred Taylor 4. 20.73 LaMonte King 5. 20.82 Willie Gault 6. 20.83 Dwayne Evans 7. 20.91 Mark Duper 8. 21.16 Otis Melvin Nope, don't know of any footage of Wiley's 400.
  • @broadjumper1 Do you know what the results were in their home championships? Also, is there any footage of Wiley's (1981?) World Cup 400m victory? His style was so silky smooth.

  • @seanofafrica - James Butler, Cliff Wiley & Fred Taylor...

  • @seanofafrica - Speaking of Strode, I can't find any report of what he scored in a decathlon, ever see any? he might have had a hard time beating Glenn Morris and by 1940, there was another great decathlete named Bill Watson (who was also black) and he won the 1940 A.A.U. decathlon by 800 points with a score over 7,500 and set two event records 100m (10.8) and discus (151' 4").

  • @seanofafrica - The story of Rafer being offered the role is recounted in David Maraniss' book: "Rome 1960, The Olympics that Changed the World." Another athlete who was suspended for "using his celebrity for financial gain", wax Lee Calhoun the '56 & '60 Olympic Champion. He suspended in 1958 for receiving gifts on "Bride and Groom," a TV game show of that time. And you're speaking of John Tarrant, the ghost runner? Yes, a sad story. One of many screwed over by Brundage's IOC. Rotten bastard.

  • @broadjumper1 Who was in the team, please?
