New Haven Railroad in the 1950's is vintage footage shot by Kent Cochrane all on 16mm film. He was a Navy photographer during WWII and did outstanding work on the New Haven. Original show was about an hour, but we have added another 15-17 minutes of a Cape Cod trip in RDC cars to this show. Lots of great diesel and RDC action, plus the last steamer 3016 in action. Again this is just a preview, and in fact its the one we did when the video was released around 1990. for more go to our video website.

@LarsIsAKidToucher You forgot to add that they had no roof, and no wheels too.

@LarsIsAKidToucher - In the south segregation was enforced, but from my understanding, blacks and other minorities up north in the 50s could pretty much ride anywhere if they had the money. But I could be mistaken. Did you find info regarding passenger train segregation in northern railroads during the 50s?

In the 1950's they had separate railroad cars for Negroes. The Negro cars had no heat or AC.

3016 was scrapped around 1958. Supposedly it was offered to the town of Essex, CT but the old biddies there didn't want it, so it went off to the scrappers.
