thanks heaps mate, my ps3 is working again

@93cimbom you have to use a heatgun. It's the only thing that will get hot enough. You shud swap the power supply out too for an APS-231 model. There are some on ebay. You need good thermal paste as well. Mine is running great since I fixed mine.

iv been tryin this method for a while and the ylod seems not to go away do u have any solutions?
I need help. I have a PS3 Slim that had a problem with not reading any game discs. I simply removed the top cover, DVD drive, and PSU. I took apart the DVD and cleaned the laser with alcohol and q-tip. I then clean out all the dust out of the PS3 and put back together. Now when I press the power button, the LED goes Green and stays Green for 5 seconds then goes to a flashing Red and three beeps (No Yellow light Green and Red) then dies. I have taken it completely apart four times now. Help!!!

your steps were very helpful. Unfortunately, i couldn;t follow them to down to a "t". For starters i did not have a heat gun so i used a hairdryer.....then when i put just the pwr suppy for pre op check like you instructed, i got the GREEN LT..Yay!!!...BUT When i put the whole unit back together, the RED LT of death came back. Could the component after the pwr supply be bad? Or the hair dryer was not good enough?

@hornettec ok thats easy that mean you plugged something in wrong take everything back off except the power supply and see if it fires back up if it does that means you had a cable askew. Hairdryers are not reccomended thoguh
