  • These are awesome :)

  • I have this same pack. I have my sleeping bag fastened to the bottom. I have to extend the tiedowns, but it works good. On top, under the top flap, I store my tent. I feed the straps through the paracord that surrounds the opening to the top. This stabalises the tent really nice and hold it in place.

In the main compartment I keep 2 changes of cloths, a set of small packabe stainless steel pots and pan (single person size), a grill grate and some other misc items. The sides have a fire kit etc

  • Hey great bag man, had mine for about 2 months now and it's the best little bag ive ever had! anyways, i was curious about the short little straps on the bottom, i found out that this backpack is an Italian "mountain" rusksack, it was used by the Alpini troops in the late 70's early 80's. again with the straps.they were used to carry the ski/trekking poles when they werent using them, also they would use them to hold their tent poles. they carried their blanket horse-shoe style over the top. :P

  • @71wicker I used the lower straps to extend the shoulder straps. Didn't take long at all..

  • Mitch, got one of your packs as a gift. Only thing I did is used the bottom straps to extend the shoulder straps, took about half an hour. The pack is great now... compact, light weight, and rugged.

  • I got that same pack of the sportsman's guide! It's a little rough around the edges but still in good shape. But there was one thing, the packing straps arrant long enuf I can't even prop it up on my shoulder??? What's with that? Didn't they have guys with a 50" chest in the army!! There's enuf relastate for my kit but I'm gunna haveto modify the straps if I use it.

  • @psparks1980 Where'd you get this for ten Bucks! That would be useful to a guy with no cash, like me.

  • I picked up this pack for ten bucks it had some imperfections but was not that bad. The main thing was it was missing one of the buckles for the main flap the other was i am a big guy so the straps did not fit. I made some mods by puting ten dollar alice shoulder straps on it which work great. I then took the bottom portion of the old straps and ran the buckle through the strap and the other end just snaps onto the d rings. It works great it makes it easy to get in and out of the pack.

  • Could you please shoot a vid covering your entire kit. :) Thanks

  • @Nativesurvival I got it almost a week ago and I love it so far. Perfect for a spring/summer ruck. Only thing is I have rather large shoulders and the standard length of the shoulder straps is too short to be comfortable. I'm sewing on webbing extensions to the straps to the length I need. Should work great!

  • What an excellent review Mitch! I've been paying attention to the likes of you, and SkogKniv, and I am switching from the over-sold tactical EVERYTHING to a more traditional approach to my outdoor endeavors. I like the cotton canvas and leather, real buckles and a more quality aspect, than I've been getting with ballistic nylon and cordura and kydex. Love your videos, pal. Thanks for an incredibly complete and comprehensive review. I like your style, brother. ~Wolf

  • Anybody know if an MSR 1.6 liter collapsible pot will fit in the side pocket of one of these? I'm in between getting the 1.1 liter & the 1.6 liter, but I don't have the sizes in front of me to compare.

  • Nice bag man, I received mine as a gift about a year ago. Since I'm out in the NW I have to have a rainproof bag and I DIY mine with a homemade version of Greenland wax. Works excellently.

  • @MrCableguyken So glad you like it brother, hope all is well with you and the little one ; )

  • @yoohoosk8r Its heavier than nylon but can take much more a beating before ripping, water resistant especially when waxed..

    thanks

  • @Nativesurvival I dont think i can remember if ive ever even felt what canvas feels like. (see what this world is coming to, im a prime example, i try not to be as i can) I was wondering, how heavy duty is canvas, i have a maxpedition and the nylon is hardcore, is canvas lightweight, is it water resistant? i love the oldschool look, what im aiming for is an old school look with new school advantages. anything come to mind. ty for your time.

  • @rainbowhiker Thanks, yeah gotta love old style gear ; )

  • Really nice pack. Great for bush work. I do love the nostalgia packs. Reminds me of the things I used growing up where there wan't much available but war surplace, at my kids salary, lol. Real good vid. Thanks for sharing.

  • @Whipt Havnt tried out the MVII.. my canvas rucks run 3.5 lbs unloaded..
