Starting power is your ability to explode from a dead stop, meaning there is no change from eccentric to concentric muscle activity, eliminating the stretch reflex.

This is different from a plyometric style exercise like a Depth jump, which works on reactive ability.

Starting power is all active ability - your ability to quickly turn your muscles on and explode without a prestretch.

Just think of the Deadlift - you explode up from the ground.

In MMA, this would be useful if you're on the bottom and you have to throw someone off of you.

Or if you're clinched up and you want to explode into a takedown or throw and surprise your opponent.

Starting power is just one of the more advanced concepts integrated into my Ultimate MMA Strength and Conditioning Program, which you can learn about here:

  • if that ball lands on ur face...

  • @ataz33 LMAO he sure did

  • @briky7126 did u seriously just put ur address for public viewing...on the internet..?

  • Cool video. Cool med ball exercise. But limit the pause at the bottom of the reps. When you pause for even a second, all the elastic energy you built up during the eccentric contraction disipates as heat, causing a significant loss in potential power

  • Are you the guy who does card magic tricks?

  • I like the concept. The movements shown here can translate to generating the immediate strength and power needed in getting someone off the top of you in an instant (e.g. side mount position as in jiu jitsu, avoiding being pinned as in wrestling, etc.).

  • @wprocks95 28 wattle street logan central 4114 thats my address come by and say that to me.

  • good tips mate - dont worry about the haters "get over yourselves"

  • theres no starting power, its starting strength which is only seen very briefly in the isometric contraction prior to movement. Its actually not seen in the tasks mentioned. Its only when the load is very light that it influences movement speed, like striking.

  • nice , gym looks good 2
