The interviewer is trying to get her to say that films in the US are made for profit, not artistic merit, even by independent directors who often film in Europe, where it's easier (and cheaper) to do so without SAG credientials, but she's onto him, and refuses to say what he wants.
As with My Fair Lady, profit-minded studios usually cast bankable actors over the stage actors who originated parts. Maybe the reviewer was going after her for that, or maybe he was just generally anti-Hollywood.
