I lost most of my platters in a flood. Anyone know how I can find a way to replace them. Oft have I fought over who was most responsible for the resurgent interest in Irish music in US. THIS IS a perfect example. -- rapare@netins.net

This is my favorite song done by The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem. I have most of their
vinyl albums & was lucky enough to see them live in NYC. They are the best of folk Irish singers ever. Unfortunately none of them are with us any more.

Anyone else know of this song from the book "Patriot Games," coincidentally by another Clancy?
-
@nyli88guy Does Liam Clancy believe that fact to be not true? or does he feel its too risky a verse to add in the recording? or what?
-
@keepitacrime Well the verse is not missing, Clancy left it out on purpose. The verse is about how Eamon de Valera betrayed and sold out his fellow Irish men for his own gain. Dominic Behan wrote the song, i recomend listening to his. The song is not about killing English, but rather how those who use the Patriot feeling to gain for themselves. Behan even called out Clancy on it.

@nyli88guy what the story behind this?about destroying the song? is there a verse missing?

I grew up singing this song for my da, (just the verses the boys sang), never failed to bring a tear to his eye. Aonach leaids spraoi againn chailleann tú

I wished he was around to explain why he and the Clancy brothers failed to sing the whole song. Why they feared singing the truth about Éamon de Valera? Even when Behan called them on destroying his song.

This is a great song about a great patriot by a wonderful singer...to keep the words in context of recent history some years ago when working in the ballad business I added a verse which I quote.....
Now Fergal O Hanlon from this life is gone,
We honour his memory in story & song,
But the best way of all to honour his name,
Is to play your own part in the Patriot Game

My favorite Clancy song. Shame I never saw this man in concert. Unlike most performers and stars these days, theres not a bad word to say about this guy.
Anyone know if he played this song often in concert?
