Mr. Schweitzer served in the Marines during WWII, and put his jungle training to good use in Guadalcanal, Bogenville and other Pacific islands. In this clip, he talks about his experiences, bouts with malaria, and shows off some photos he saved.

This video was produced by WOSU Public Media as part of ohiowarstories.org. It was created with the generous assistance of the Longaberger Foundation, and videotaped by students from Newark High School in Ohio.

  • Many veterans is dying every day

  • thanks for taking the time and making the effort at recording these memories: it is so important to get them while the veterans are still here. i'll be coming back soon to look at more of the vets.

  • It is a minor detail but you should have draped the flag in the background in proper manner. Like the flags in the background when the president speaks. Great stories, thanks

  • if you've never had the chance to sit and listen to the stories these WWII vets have to tell, I highly recommend it. Great video, wish it was longer.
