Good job. I just did this last week on my '76 Mazda Cosmo and managed to warp the door quite a bit around the former handle. Went slow, but used too much heat on the MIG. Maybe when I do the driver door tomorrow I'll give the TIG a try. I was ultimately able to beat most of the warp out but would not like to repeat that.

I sort of like the detents for the handles but I'm sure your final results will be awesome. You're doing great work!

yea man u do really nice work. I remember when me and my dad shaved the handles on my first car. So much work he did all the welding. But it came out soo amazing. I kind of miss going crazy with my cars. Anyways good luck with ur project!

That's a neat cut by the plasma cutter, boys and their toys.
Nice hands on demonstration, many thanks.
WOW. Your using a Tig Welder for that. YIKES. I use a 110 Mig welder with .023 or .025 solid wire and CO2 for gas. Im surprised you didnt warp everything around with your tig. Then again.... that car doesnt look like it has 20-22 gauge body panels either.

I used Tig because it gives a flatter, softer weld which can be beaten and dressed a little more easily. Mig seems to chill on me a little and makes panel beating a pain. I'm happy so long as the body filler is thin when the job is done. FYI I edited out all the times I stuck the tungsten to the car! the beauty of Youtube ;-)
