My personal tribute to the people of this wonderful nation.

The Chieftains are so amazing, I need not say any more about their wonderful music, except - "Long may it continue.."

I thank you for the times I have been able to retreat there, when things have gone wrong. I thank you for your warm hospitality, your amazing pubs, villages, and the gently falling rain.

For the kind words which were always said, and the good deeds done..

For your rejection of the Lisbon treaty.. Hang on in there!

For the bilingual signs, in miles and kilometres - for your eternal fighting spirit..

Long-suffering Emerald Isle - at last find freedom and peace..

True love from a friend across the water..

Bless you all..

Tony (in Matlock, England) xx

PS God bless Ireland..

DEREK BELL,I think from Belfast, was with the Chieftains until he died too young. He was not I think from the "nationalist" tradition. The music was what mattered for the much loved Derek and for the Chieftains as well. It was Ulster that rescued the music of O'Carolan that survives. BTW,the Chieftains performed at the concert to welcome Queen Liz to Ireland. So,there's no lack of appreciation for all the great traditions of Ireland by our best artists.
