  • There was no surplus, nor even a balanced budget. The last time the United States had a budget surplus was 1969. All this is easily found on the Internet. Just google "Clinton surplus myth". Even Ernest Hollings -- a Democrat senator -- didn't buy it. Besides, it is the Congress that writes the spending bills. If there had been a surplus we would have had a Republican Congress to thank for it.

  • @cullgmail You're giving Clinton way too much credit for the economic boom that we experienced during the 90's. The facts are that the Republican congress forced Clinton to balance the budget and to reform Welfare. Had things went the way Clinton wanted them to before the Republican take over of Congress in 1994, America would not have experienced that surplus that it experienced during the 90's.

  • the real facts about clinton are that he raised taxes on the wealthy and cut spending reduced the deficit in his first term and balanced the budget in his second term and turned it into surplus
