The Fairchild SD-5 was a subsonic delta-wing aircraft powered by a single Pratt & Whitney J60 turbojet. It was zero-length launched with the help of a single solid-propellant rocket booster (giving 40000 lb) of thrust for 3 sec) and recovered by parachute. The drone had an operational radius of 1600 km (1000 miles) and could fly at altitudes between a few hundred feet and 35000 ft.

  • I met a guy today who worked on this project. Awesome being a fellow "drone" pilot. (if you've ever seen my videos).

  • yOU CAN CARRY A LOT OF WEAPONS ON THAT. jUST LIKE THEYRE ARMING THE PREDATOR DRONES IN iRAQ. It could probably be armed with many bombs and would travel with a predator. once the predator found the target, this would destroy it.its cool how this thing lands!

  • Not only that, but look at all the overhead needed just to make it fly straight to it's destination and back.

It seems the V-22 isn't the FIRST Rube Goldberg Machine to be named the "Osprey"!

  • That's giant for unmanned aerial surveillance.

    No wonder it was trashed.
